A 5.4 magnitude earthquake was recorded in west Texas on Wednesday, November 16, 2022. The epicenter was near Mentone, Texas about 242 miles east of El Paso, according to the United States Geological Survey. Tremors were felt in El Paso, and Midland Texas and in the areas around Carlsbad, NM. A University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) professor told Chief Meteorologist Sandra Diaz that it was the largest earthquake that has taken place in the area. Multiple residents reported feeling the ground shake around 2:32 p.m., which is when the earthquake began. Five aftershocks did occur and may continue to occur.

The Double E Pipeline was not impacted by the event. Summit Midstream Permian Field Office inspected the line and found no damage impacting the flow. As such, there are no restrictions expected for today's gas day and the remainder of the month. Crews will continue to closely monitor activity along the pipeline and provide updates if needed.
