Calculations

The interstate pipelines report their data using MMBtu. There is not a direct calculation available to convert MMBtu to Bcf. As of 2024, the EIA was recommending dividing MMBtu by 1,038,000 to get the value in Bcf. This is the calculation being used to calculate Bcf on the graphs.

1,000,000 MMBtu = 0.96 Bcf
(1,000,000/1,038,000 = 0.96)

Older data from EIA used to recommend using 1,036,000. This value seems to change over time (and depending on the application) which makes sense that technological efficiencies and type of usage can affect measurements.

Cycle Overview

A Gas Day starts at 9:00 am Central time and ends the following day at 9:00 am. There are 5 pipeline cycles for a specific gas day where a scheduler can submit a nomination: Timely (deadline 1:00 pm the day before the gas day starts), Evening (deadline 6:00 pm the day before the gas day starts), Intraday 1 (deadline 10:00 am on the gas day), Intraday 2 (deadline 2:30 pm on the gas day), and Intraday 3 (deadline 7:00 pm on the gas day). The Total Scheduled Capacity may be adjusted as the gas day proceeds.

Since adjustments can happen during the day, the initial cycles will not necessarily be an accurate representation of the gas flow for the day.

Locations

There are three interstate pipeline meters that provide feedgas to Freeport LNG: Gulf South Stratton Ridge, Texas Eastern (TETCO) BIG Pipeline, and Texas Eastern (TETCO) Stratton Ridge.

Note that BIG Pipeline (Brazoria Interconnector Gas Pipeline) is an intrastate pipeline that Enbridge (Texas Eastern) leases space on to deliver to Freeport LNG's storage at Stratton Ridge.

Texas Eastern Transmission

Texas Eastern does not specifically list Evening and Intraday cycle data. It outputs data in intervals that range from about 15 minutes to an hour. The PipeRiv code converts the hourly data to Evening and Intraday by checking at specific times of day.
